Noch einmal fühl' ich jugendliches Leben
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Noch einmal fühl' ich jugendliches Leben,
Noch einmal will die Seele sich erheben,
Empor, empor auf dichterischen Schwingen,
Dir, Holdeste, ein würdig Lied zu singen.
Entflohen sind der Minne holde Zeiten,
Verklungen längst der Liebe sanfte Saiten;
So freundlich her aus azurblauer Ferne,
Hoch schlägt mein Herz in fröhlichem Entzücken,

About the headline (FAQ)
Note: Lang's manuscript only sets the first stanza of the poem, but there is a repeat sign at the end of the song suggesting that more stanzas are expected.

To Regina *
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Once more I feel youthful life,
Once more my soul wishes to arise,
Aloft, aloft on creative pinions,
In order to sing to you, loveliest one, a worthy song.
The beautiful times of courtly love have flown,
The gentle music of love has long since died away;
Even if a heart swells in response to beauty and purity,
It is crushed in evil and commonness.
But pure stars sparkle from the heavens,
So amiably down from the azure-blue distance,
And I see an angel, full of dewy life,
Striving up toward yonder realm.
Full of joyful delight I stand before the image,
How its gaze shines -- so solemn and yet so gentle,
How beautifully flows the word from her lips[;]
Minerva created in league with Venus here.
My heart beats high in joyful rapture,
Oh Muse, let my bold song be successful,
And if I may not achieve the laurel wreath,
Then let me nevertheless die at her feet.
