Was in Freuden sich gefunden,
Was zu Freuden sich verbunden,
Ist getrennt und wieder fern.

Nur nicht klagen, nur nicht zagen!
Schönes kann nie ganz vergehn.
Freuet euch! Uns ist geblieben 
Unser Hoffen, unser Lieben:
Gott giebt uns ein Wiedersehn.

In farewell

Beautiful hours have vanished,
And we were so fond of them!
Those who found each other in joys,
Those who united with each other for joy,
Are separated and again far apart.

Only do not lament, only do not become apprehensive!
The beautiful cannot vanish utterly.
Be happy! Our hope, our love,
Has remained to us:
God shall give us a reunion.
