by Hans Reynolds (1876 - 1933)
Translation Singable translation by Wilhelm Henzen (1850 - 1910)

Mellem Øerne
Language: Norwegian (Bokmål)
Tyst ombord -
Bølgen risler om Baug og Ror,
Luften er lind,
Palmen paa Høien derinde
suser under Stjernerne . . . .
vugger sin Viftekrone
i Kveldens Vind.

Men af Sjø
Maanen hæver sig stor og rød -
Barkens Seil
stiger som Taarne og Tinder
mod Stjernehvælvet,
skjælver og glitrer i Bølgens
blanke Speil.

Tanken gaar
ind mod Øen - hvor Palmen staar -
længselsfuld,
svæver paa Drømmevinger,
seiler over Høiene . . . .
Palmerne, som vugger
i Maaneguld.

Still, wie still!
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Norwegian (Bokmål)
Still, wie still!
Um den Bug nur ein leis' Gequill,
Luft ist so lind,
Palmen am Strand auf der Höhe
säuseln unterm Sternendach
wiegen die Fächerkrone im Abendwind.

Aus der Flut
hebt der Mond sich in rother Gluth.
Hoch hinauf
steigen wie Thürme und Zinnen die weissen Segel,
blinken aus zitterndem Spiegel hell herauf.

Sehnsucht schwebt
strandwärts, wo sich die Palme hebt
süss und hold
regt sich die Traumesschwingen
flattert über alle Höh'n,
wiegend stehn die Palmen im Mondesgold.
