Jag är alfa, jag är omega.

I tidens början fanns Ordet, 
och Ordet fanns hos Gud, 
och Ordet var Gud. 

Det fanns i begynnelsen hos Gud;
allt blev till genom det, 
och utan det blev ingenting till 
av allt som finns till.
I Ordet var liv, och livet var människornas ljus. 
Och ljuset lyser i mörkret, 
och mörkret har inte övervunnit det. 
                                                  
Du, Herre, lade i begynnelsen jordens grund, 
och himlarna är dina händers verk;
de skall förgås, men du förbliver; 
de skall alla nötas ut såsom en mantel,
du skall rulla ihop den; 
de skall bytas ut. 
Men du är densamme, 
och dina år har inget slut!
