O schweigt, ihr Vöglein auf den grünen Auen! Es hallen rings die dumpfen Glockenklänge, Die Engel singen leise Grabgesänge; O still, ihr Vöglein hoch im Himmelblauen! Ihr Veilchen, kränzt heut keine Lockenhaare! Euch pflückt mein frommes Kind zum dunklen Strausse, Ihr wandert mit zum Muttergotteshause, Da sollt ihr welken auf des Herrn Altare. Oh setmana, testimoni de la sagrada Passió! Sembles tan severa en aquest goig primaveral, estens, en els rejovenits raigs del sol, l’ombra de la creu damunt la terra lluminosa, i en silenci deposes el teu crespó; entretant, la primavera pot continuar germinant, les violetes flairen sota els arbres florits i tots els ocellets refilen cants d’alegria. Oh calleu, vosaltres ocellets a les verdes prades! Somortes, les campanades ressonen tot a l’entorn, a mitja veu els àngels entonen cants fúnebres; oh calleu, ocellets allà dalt al cel blau! Violetes, avui no heu d’ornar cap cabellera enrinxolada! La meva devota filla us collirà per fer un fosc ram, amb ella anireu a la casa de la Mare de Déu, i allà us heu de marcir damunt l’altar del Senyor. Ai allà, èbria de melodies de dol, i dolçament atordida per la feixuga flaire de l’encens, ella cerca el seu nuvi a la cripta de la mort i l’amor i la primavera, tot s’esfondra!
