När kardinal'n en vacker dag
njöt morgonen i fulla drag
så, gissa, vad han skåda fick?
Spritt naken älva fin och kvick! 

För ögonen sin hand han bär,
min Gud, min Gud, det rent ej är,
men liten älva så muntert ler:
"Så se då hit, jag råder er!" 

Och småningom sin hand han tar
från ögonen. Jo, rent det var, jo rent det var.
Hans barm, hans gård fick blomsterskrud,
ty hon var vårens sändebud.

Keijukainen ja Kardinaali

Kun kardinaali eräänä  kauniina päivänä
nautti aamusta täysin vedoin
arvaapa, mitä hän sai nähdä?
Ilkialastoman keijukaisen, niin hienon ja vikkelän! 

Kätensä hän nostaa silmilleen,
"Jumalani, Jumalani, tämä ei ole sopivaa!"
Mutta pikku keijukainen hymyilee niin veikeästi:
"Katsopa sitten tänne, niin neuvon teitä!" 

Ja vähitellen han ottaa kätensä
silmiltään. "Onhan se sopivaa, onhan se sopivaa."
Hänen povensa, hänen pihansa puhkesivat kukkaloistoon,
sillä hän oli kevään sanansaattaja.
