Que de pressa s’esvaneixen llum i esplendor, el matí troba una garlanda marcida, que ahir brillava en tota la seva magnificència, per després marcir-se en la fosca nit. Com una onada la vida passa surant, i encara que brillant s’acolori, no ha guanyat res; el sol s’amaga, la vermellor s’esvaneix, avancen les ombres i arriba la foscor. Així sura l’amor vers els llocs deserts, ai, si almenys pogués durar fins a la tomba! Però ens despertem sentint un gran turment: la barca s’ha esgavellat, la llum s’apaga, lluny del bell país, hem estat arrossegats vers una platja deserta on la nit ens envolta.
