What holy morning peace wafts About you, too, you green wilderness! Only butterflies fly to and fro, Newly enlivened by the first breath of wind. And here and there a spark shimmers Wondrously through the nightlike darkness, And in the roses' calyces the dew of heaven Still glimmers, brightly and clearly. And fervently upon the highest tree The blackbird sings its devout song, And the haulm sways delightfully in the reeds, As if waking from a dream. And lo, as if the wilderness wished To disentangle itself from the mist and sounds, Thus, in the eerie light, tremble All the tendrils and herbs. Oh, send into my weary heart as well A breath of such peace, Thou who understands the shrub in its Pain of yearning in the deepest woods! Ah, all the errant thoughts Are transfigured into blessed peace, And from the trepidation and the wavering, Lord, lead me toward faith!
