by Ludwig Heinrich Christoph Hölty (1748 - 1776)

Lied eines Liebenden
Language: German (Deutsch)
  Beglückt, beglückt,
  Wer dich erblickt,
Und deinen Himmel trinket;
  Wem dein Gesicht,
  Voll Engellicht,
Den Gruß des Friedens winket.

  Ein süßer Blick,
  Ein Wink, ein Nick,
Reißt mich zur Himmelssphäre;
  Den ganzen Tag
  Sinn ich ihm nach,
Und baue dir Altäre.

  Dein liebes Bild,
  So sanft, so mild,
Führt mich an goldner Kette;
  Erwachet warm
  In meinem Arm,
Und geht mit mir zu Bette.

  Beglückt, beglückt,
  Wer dich erblickt,
Und sich in dir berauschet;
  Blick gegen Blick,
  Nick gegen Nick,
Kuß gegen Kuß vertauschet.

Confirmed with Ludwig Christoph Heinrich Hölty's Sämtliche Werke kritisch und chronologisch herausgegeben von Wilhelm Michael, Erster Band, Weimar, Gesellschaft der Bibliophilen, 1914, page 215; and with Gedichte von Ludewig Heinrich Christoph Hölty. Nebst Briefen des Dichters herausgegeben von Karl Halm. Leipzig: F.A. Brockhaus, 1869, page 202.

This is the original version of Hölty's poem. It has first been published in a heavily reworked version by Johann Heinrich Voß; see below.
