Rezitativ JESUS Jehovah, du mein Vater! O sende Trost und Kraft und Stärke mir. Sie nahet nun, die Stunde meiner Leiden, von mir erkoren schon, noch eh' die Welt auf dein Geheiss dem Chaos sich entwand. Ich höre deines Seraphs Donnerstimme, sie fordert auf, wer statt der Menschen sich vor dein Gericht jetzt stellen will. O Vater! Ich erschein' auf diesen Ruf. Vermittler will ich sein, ich büsse, ich allein, der Menschen Schuld. Wie könnte dies Geschlecht, aus Staub gebildet, ein Gericht ertragen, das mich, mich deinen Sohn, zu Boden drückt? Ach sieh', wie Bangigkeit, wie Todesangst mein Herz mit Macht ergreift! Ich leide sehr, mein Vater! O sieh! Ich leide sehr, erbarm' dich mein! Arie JESUS Meine Seele ist erschüttert von den Qualen die mir dräuen. Schrecken fasst mich, und es zittert grässlich schaudernd mein Gebein. Wie ein Fieberfrost ergreifet mich die Angst beim nahen Grab, und von meinen Antlitz träufet, statt des Schweisses, Blut herab. Vater! Tief gebeugt und kläglich, fleht dein Sohn hinauf zu dir: Deiner Macht ist alles möglich, nimm den Leidenskelch von mir!

Elle approche maintenant, l'heure de mes souffrances, déjà choisie par moi, avant même que le monde à ta demande n'échappe au chaos. J'entends la voix de tonnerre de ton Séraphin, elle demande qui veut pour les hommes se présenter maintenant devant ton tribunal. Ô Père ! Je réponds à cet appel. Je serai le médiateur, je paierai, moi seul, pour la faute des hommes. Comment cette espèce , faite de poussière, pourrait supporter un jugement qui moi, ton fils, me fait tomber à terre ? Ah, vois quelle angoisse, quelle peur de la mort saisissent avec force mon cœur ! Je souffre beaucoup, mon Père ! Oh, regarde, je souffre beaucoup, aie pitié de moi ! Air Jésus Mon âme est secouée par l'angoisse que je ressens. Je suis terrifié et je tremble avec des frissons horribles de tout mon corps. Comme par une fièvre glacée je suis saisi par la peur de la tombe toute proche, et de mon visage ruisselle non de la sueur mais du sang. Père ! Profondément incliné et pitoyable, ton fils te supplie : Tout est possible à ton pouvoir, éloigne ce calice de souffrance de moi !
