 μηλίδες ἀρδόμεναι ῥοᾶν
 ἐκ ποταμῶν, ἵνα Παρθένων
 κῆπος ἀκήρατος, αἵ τ’ οἰνανθίδες
 αὐξόμεναι σκιεροῖσιν ὑφ’ ἕρνεσιν            
 οἰναρέοις θαλέθοισιν· ἐμοὶ δ’ Ἔρος
 οὐδεμίαν κατάκοιτος ὥραν.

e lungo l'orto sacro delle vergini
ai meli cidonii apre il fiore,
a altro fiore assale i tralci della vite
nel buio delle foglie;

in me Eros,
che mai alcuna età mi rasserena,
come il vento del nord rosso di fulmini,
rapido muove: così, torbido
