Sie war die Ros', ich sah sie blühn im Morgentau; am Abend war die Rose fahl, und dann nicht mehr. Nur einmal weinet Gärtner Lenz um eine Ros', da Tod ihm diese Rose stahl, und dann nicht mehr. Ella era la tavernera, amb goig servia vi en el nostre cercle, somrient em va oferir una copa i després mai més. Ella era la rosa, la vaig veure florir en el rou del matí; al vespre la rosa es marcí, i després mai més. Tan sols una vegada Abril el jardiner plorà per una rosa quan la mort li robà aquesta rosa i després mai més. Una sola vegada, quan ella s’esblaimà fou acerb el goig de la vida, dolç el turment de la mort, i després mai més. Vaig veure la rosa, núvia amb el vel, tancada dins d’una fosca estança, estreta i petita, i després mai més.
