An letzten Rosenblättern hing Des Sommers letzter Schmetterling, Und ihn umfing zum letztenmal Der Abendsonne müder Strahl. Da ging ich durch die Dämmerung Mit einem Mädchen, bleich und jung, Die Liebste war's, mit der ich ging, Ich gab ihr Lebewohl und Ring. Der Waldbach zog am Mühlensteg, Ein Hirte sang am Felsenweg, Er sang ein Lied so weh, so bang, In unser Aug' die Träne drang. Wir standen an der Kirchhoftür: Nun lebe wohl, nun scheiden wir. Mir ist das Herz so schwer, so schwer! Mir ahnt, wir sehn uns nimmermehr.
