Es singt so süß die Nachtigall, Wenn sich der Tag zu Ende neigt, Wenn sich verloren jeder Schall, Und Alles ruht, und Alles schweigt. Der Wind kühl durch die Trauben weht Vom duftenden Hollunderbaum, Darunter eine Rose steht, Sie träumt den ersten Liebestraum. Vom Baume tönt's wie Sehnsuchtlaut, Die rote Rose bebt und lauscht, Bis sie von Thränen ganz bethaut, Bis sie von Liebe ganz berauscht.
