  L'herbe fume au soleil de mai;
Le vent frais va rasant le velours des mousses,
  Mon cœur dort, se sentant aimé.

Le sommeil lentement vient d'ouvrir son aile
  Sur le nid où l'oiseau se tait ;
Mais dans l'air une voix sonne, gaie et frêle,
  Comme si tout mon cœur chantait.

Le bruit sourd des mouvants peupliers me berce,
  Je vais clore, en rêvant, les yeux,
Calme, et sous le feuillage un rayon qui perce
  Remplira mon vieux cœur joyeux.

L'essaim fou des muets, des féeriques rêves
  Va danser dans l'éther calmé ;
