by Ivan Ivanovich Kozlov (1779 - 1840)

Sel`skaya e`legiya
Language: Russian (Русский)
V tishi sela uedinennoj
Mladoj stradalecz grustno zhil,
I, dolgoj mukoj utomlenny'j,
On dobry'm lyudyam govoril:
«Uzh v cerkov` nashego selen`ya
Vas prizy'vayut na molen`ya,
V vechernij kolokol zvonya;
Molites` bogu za menya.

Kogda zh nachnet dubrava tmit`sya,
Tumany' lyagut nad vodoj,
Togda skazhite: «Ne tomitsya
Teper` stradalecz molodoj».
No vy' menya ne zaby'vajte,
V uny'vny'x pesnyax pominajte
I, sly'sha zvon s konchinoj dnya,
Molites` bogu za menya.

Pred xitroj, zlobnoj klevetoyu
YA dam vsyu zhizn` moyu v otvet,
I s neporochnoyu dushoyu
Bez straxa ya pokinu svet.
Nedolog by'l moj put` uny'ly'j,—
V moej vesne uzh nad mogiloj
Stoyu v slezax; k nej vzor sklonya,
Molites` bogu za menya.

Moj mily'j drug, moj drug prekrasny'j!
YA dumal dolgo zhit` s toboj;
No, zhertvoyu mechty' naprasnoj,
Moj vek minutoj by'l odnoj.
O! serdcza nezhnogo trevogu
Prostite ej; molites` bogu,
Usly'sha zvon v merczan`e dnya,
I za nee, i za menya.»
