Geh' mit Tagesanbruch durch die Straße,
Such' den Nebel mit dem Netz zu fangen,
So viel Nebel in dem Netz wird hangen,
So viel Treue wird der Bursch dir halten.
 
Seine Treue einem Siebe gleichet,
Dessen Boden tausendfach durchlöchert,
Doch sein Schwur gleichet einem Windhauch,
Der durch der Bäume Wipfel flüchtig streichet.
 
Merk' es wohl, das ist des Burschen Treue,
Glaube ihm an Sommertagen nur bis Mittag,
Doch vom Sommer bis zum Sommer niemals!
