Es klingen die Hörner so hell durch den Wald, 
Das Echo gibt's wieder viel tausendfalt; 
Halli, halloh! 
Das jauchzet so froh, 
Doch zitternd das schüchterne Wild entfloh.  

Mit bellenden Rüden, auf schnaubendem Roß 
Braus't her wie ein Wetter der Jäger Troß. 
Halloh, halli! 
Vorüber sind sie, 
So schwindet das Leben, du weißt nicht wie.  

Das Leben ist auch eine lustige Jagd, 
Das Glück zu erhaschen bei Tag und Nacht. 
Halli, halloh! 
Wenn's auch uns entfloh, 
Was gilt's, wir ereilen's noch irgendwo!
