An deiner Seite so gerne Durchträum' ich die Frühlingsnacht; Treu halten die heiligen Sterne Vor deinem Fenster die Wacht, Indeß wir in Armen uns hangen, In Seele die Seele versinkt Und Mund von Mund in langen Zügen den Athem trinkt. Aus Wipfeln, drin Vögel brüten, Wirft sanft der duftende Mai Seine Knospen und Blüthen Herab auf uns selige Zwei, Und durch die Fensterbogen Nachtwandelnd weht der Wind Deine Locken in Wogen Über mein Haupt gelind. Wir zittern, wir erblassen Vor Liebe, und Jedem quillt Im wonnethränen-nassen Auge des Andern Bild. Ach! steigt schon im Osten der rothe Schimmer des Morgens empor? Nein, durch den Himmel lohte Ein nächtliches Meteor. Tausend Geheimnisse müssen Wir noch einander vertrau'n, Und tausend Küsse noch küssen, Eh' der Morgen beginnt zu grau'n. Was scheuchst du mit deinem Gesange, O Schwalbe, so frühe die Nacht? Schweig, schweig! und haltet noch lange Ihr heiligen Sterne, die Wacht!
