Translation by Ernst Heinrich Meier (1813 - 1866)

Vergebliche Beschwörung
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Chinese (中文)
Den weiten Weg bin ich gegangen
Ihm nach, ihm nach;
Den Ärmel konnt' ich nur erlangen,
Hielt ihn und sprach:
Sei mir nicht bös, nicht abgewandt!
O knüpfe neu das alte Band!

Die Königsstraß' bin ich gegangen,
Ihm nach, ihm nach;
Die Hand nur konnte ich erlangen,
Indem ich sprach:
O sei nicht bös, sei mir nicht feind,
Und halt' den Bund, der uns vereint!
