Wer keinen Frühling hat, dem blüht er nicht! Wer schweigt, dem tönt kein Echo hier auf Erden! Weß Herz nicht dichtet, der faßt kein Gedicht, Und wer nicht liebt, dem wird nicht Liebe werden. Was ist der Geist, der nie zum Geiste spricht, Der selbstgefällig will in sich verwesen? Was ein Gemüt, das nie die Rinde bricht? Was eine Schrift, die nicht und nie zu lesen? Es findet jeder Geist verwandte Geister! Kein Herz, das einsam, ohne Liebe bricht! Nur wer sich selbst verlor, ist ein Verwaister! Wer keinen Frühling hat, dem blüht er nicht!
