Der synger i mig en Tone,
den kjendes saa tung og saa gul af Guld,
jeg selv blir en Herre af Rigdom fuld,
en Konge i Kaabe og Krone.

Staar Natten stum mod min Rude,
da synger den Guldlyd igjennem mit Sind,
den slynger min Tanke fra Tind til Tind
til mange Verdner derude.

Den bær mig til andre Kloder,
hvor Stjærnerne svømmer som Ø efter Ø.
Det er som mit Hjerte af Lykke skal dø
til lange, brusende Noder.

Un air

J'ai un air dans la tête
aussi lourd et aussi jaune que l'or,
je suis devenu un grand seigneur du royaume ,
un roi avec manteau et couronne.

Quand la nuit est muette devant ma vitre
alors les notes d'or chantent dans mon esprit,
elles s'entrecroisent dans mes pensées d'une tempe à l'autre
pour aller dehors vers bien des mondes.

Cela me porte vers d'autres globes,
où les étoiles flottent comme des îles.
C'est comme si mon cœur devait mourir de bonheur
à ces long et bruissants accords.
