by (Agnes) Mathilde Wesendonck, née Luckemeyer (1828 - 1902)

Ich weiß einen Gedanken
Language: German (Deutsch)
Ich weiß einen Gedanken,
Den denk' ich Tag und Nacht,
Und müßt' ich ewig denken,
Hätt' nie ihn ausgedacht.

Und was mein Herz will kränken
Und was mich traurig macht,
Ein trautes Dein-Gedanken
Ist wie ein Stern in Nacht.

Er leuchtet ohne Wanken,
Ob's in mir weint, ob's lacht,
Hoch über allen Schranken
Ist, was mich selig macht.

Und tief in mir geborgen
Ruht's in des Busens Schacht,
Was, denkend Nacht und Morgen -
Ich nie doch ausgedacht.
