Sempre et saludem, oh nit, però doblement aquí al bosc, on els teus ulls riuen més furtivament, on els teus passos ressonen més fluixet! A les copes de branques de fullatge hi aboques els teu argent, sostens la lluna, amb els seus raigs suaus, a la casa de fulles, com un fanal per a nosaltres. Ventijols xiuxiuejants són la teva paraula; raigs que giravolten són els teus fils, tot el que toca la teva boca apaivagadora, tanca els ulls i cau adormit. I tanmateix, -- tot és massa formós per estar adormit, per això, aixeca i desperta amb el toc de corns, amb la clara remor del batec de les onades, el que dejorn jeia estamordit per la son! El fullatge del bosc ja es belluga, els ocellets creuen que la nit ha marxat. Els cabirols errants tímidament es retiren; s’imaginen que aviat es farà de dia; des de la font ressona com si ella s’hagués desvetllat; el brancam del bosc bramula poderosament; i nosaltres cridem tot cantant: al bosc la nit és com a casa, i llarga estona repeteix l’eco: ella és com a casa en el bosc! Així doncs et saludem doblement aquí al bosc, oh plàcida nit, on tot el que és bell de tu se’ns representa i ens somriu encara molt més formós.
