La despourveue
Language: Old French (Ancien français)
Our translations:  ENG

I'm bereft
Language: English  after the Old French (Ancien français)
I'm bereft and banished
From him who gave me my life
Simply from a false rumour;
Ah, Fortune, aren't you wrong
To have punished the matter this way?

Her poor heart never thought
To be so hated by him;
But since that pleases him, she accepts.
  I'm bereft and banished
  From him who gave me my life
  Simply from a false rumour.

She wants no more company,
Fortune is too hateful
For having been all her comfort,
So she desires only death
If she must be forgotten.

I'm bereft and banished
From him who gave me my life
Simply from a false rumour;
Ah, Fortune, aren't you wrong
To have punished the matter this way?
