A vrays amans font painne et tourment ;

The basilisk
Language: English  after the French (Français)
The basilisk by his own nature
Kills instantly all those he sees,
For his poison is immeasurably deadly,
Without remedy or relief.
Thus Envy kills
Good men through most bloody jealousy,
So that each sees his equal with great displeasure,
For Deception holds the world in his power.
The king of Love at the palace of Righteousness
Thus gave sentence and judgement
Against the enemy which through his wicked bite
Gives pain and torment to true lovers:
Cursed be their life
And their slander full of great folly,
Through which I lose true and noble love,
For Deception holds the world in his power.
