by Pierre-Jules-Théophile Gautier (1811 - 1872)

Paysage
Language: French (Français)
    ...omnia plenis
    Rura natant fossis.
        --P. VIRGILUS MARO.

Pas une feuille qui bouge,
Pas un seul oiseau chantant ;
Au bord de l'horizon rouge
Un éclair intermittent ;

D'un côté, rares broussailles,
Sillons à demi noyés,
Pans grisâtres de murailles,
Saules noueux et ployés ;

De l'autre, un champ que termine
Un large fossé plein d'eau,
Une vieille qui chemine
Avec un pesant fardeau,

Et puis la route qui plonge
Dans le flanc des coteaux bleus,
Et comme un ruban s'allonge
En minces plis onduleux.
