La lune s'est bâti dans les flots cette nuit
Un grand palais d’argent qui tremble et qui reluit.

Il a des tours d’ivoire et de neige, et chacune
Porte mon rêve errant au palais de la lune.

Il a des clairs balcons penchés au flanc des tours
Et des escaliers blancs où pleure mes amours.

Si tu veux t’en aller sur les flots, que ta rame
Évite le palais de la lune, ô douce âme.

Toi dont la pitié passe à travers mon destin
Comme un baiser furtif, comme un amour éteint,

Ne heurte pas mon rêve avec ta rame noire.
Le pauvre rêve errant le long des tours d’ivoire ;

Ne brise pas, crois-moi, de tes avirons lourds
Les pâles escaliers où pleurent mes amours,
