Die Nixe in der stillen Flut, sie weiß nicht, daß der Tod aus ihrem wasserdunklen Blick den Erdensöhnen droht. Sie kann nicht lieben, hassen nicht: du Menschenkind allein schaust in das rätseltiefe Auge die Eigne Seele hinein. Da schwillt und quillt entgegen dir verdoppelt Glück und Weh; du schaust und schaust, vergehst, versinkst, - verwundert rauscht der See.
