Every morning I look
To see if my darling is coming from afar,
I bind him a fresh bouquet,
Oh so dearly would I love to adorn him, to embrace him!
But the flowers soon wither,
And night sinks -- quiet and cold!
Dark with tears the stars of my eyes
Look out over the fields.

Before the last flower dies,
Come, beloved, you faithful one!
With the fervour of a young bride
My heart, consumed by fire, woos you!
Call, you breezes, call him hither,
Carry him over crag and sea,
