by Heinrich Seidel (1842 - 1906)

Wie der Mond kam es gegangen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Weiß doch nicht, wie es gekommen,
War es doch, als müßt' es sein,
Daß mein Herz du hingenommen --
Gar so sanft schlich Liebe ein.

Wie nach heißen Tages Glühen
Mild auf die versengte Au,
Auf die Blumen, die da blühen,
Hold und labend sinkt der Thau:

Hat kein stürmisches Verlangen,
Wildes Sehnen mir gebracht --
Wie der Mond kam es gegangen
In der stillen Sommernacht.

Confirmed with Heinrich Seidel, Blätter im Winde, Berlin: Rud. Hoffmann, 1872, page 39.
