Blumen wand er sich zum Kranz,
Und er sah sie fortgerissen
Treiben in der Wellen Tanz.
Und so fliehen meine Tage
Wie die Quelle rastlos hin!
Und so bleichet meine Jugend,
Wie die Kränze schnell verblühn!

Fraget nicht, warum ich traure
In des Lebens Blüthenzeit!
Alles freuet sich und hoffet,
Wenn der Frühling sich erneut.
Aber [diese]1 tausend Stimmen
Der erwachenden Natur
Wecken in dem tiefen Busen
Mir den schweren Kummer nur.

Was soll mir die Freude frommen,
Die der schöne Lenz mir beut?
Eine nur ists, die ich suche,
Sie ist nah und ewig weit.
Sehnend breit ich meine Arme
Nach dem theuren Schattenbild,
Ach ich kann es nicht erreichen,
Und das Herz [bleibt]2 ungestillt!

Komm herab, du schöne Holde,
Und verlaß dein stolzes Schloß!
Blumen, die der Lenz geboren,
Streu ich dir in deinen Schoß.
Horch, der Hain erschallt von Liedern
Und die Quelle rieselt klar!
Raum ist in der kleinsten Hütte
Für ein glücklich liebend Paar.

El jovencell al rierol

El noi seia prop de la font,
trenant flors per fer una garlanda
i veié com eren arrossegades,
surant en la dansa de les ones.
“I així fugen els meus dies
com al font, lluny sense parar!
I així empal·lideix la meva jovenesa,
com la garlanda que aviat es marceix!

No em pregunteu per què em lamento
a la flor de la joventut!
Tot és joia i esperança
al renovellament de la primavera.
Però aquests milers de veus
de la natura que reneix,
desvetllen en el fons del meu cor
només una pena feixuga.

De què em serveix la joia
que ofereix la formosa primavera?
Només és una, la que jo cerco,
ella és a prop i sempre llunyana.
Amb deler, obro els meus braços
vers l’estimada imatge de la seva ombra,
ai, no la puc atènyer
i el meu cor resta malcontent!

Vine aquí baix, tu bella encisadora
i surt del teu superb castell!
Flors, nascudes de la primavera,
escamparé a la teva falda.
Escolta, ressonen cançons al boscatge
i clara corre la font!
Hi ha prou lloc a la cabana més petita
per a una feliç parella d’amants.”
