Na rasput`e v dikom drevnem pole Chyorny'j voron na kreste sidit. Zarosla bur`yanom step` na vole, I v trave zarzhavel stary'j shhit. Na rasput`e lyudi nachertali Rokovuyu nadpis`: «Put` pryamoj Mnogo bed gotovit, i edva li Ty' po nyom vorotish`sya domoj. Put` napravo bez konya ostavit — Pobredyosh` odin i sir i nag, — A togo, kto vlevo put` napravit, Vstretit smert` v neznaemy'x polyax…» Zhutko mne! Vdali stoyat mogily'… V nix by'loe dremlet vechny'm snom… «Otzovisya, voron chernokry'ly'j! Ukazhi mne put` v krayu gluxom. YA pokinul ostrov Czar`-devicy', Sine more, terem i sady'. Ne ishhu ya po svetu Zhar-Pticy', — Ukazhi mne klyuch zhivoj vody'!» Dremlet polden`. Na tropax zveriny'x Tleyut kosti v travax. Tri puti Vizhu ya v zhelteyushhix ravninax… No kuda i kak po nim idti? Gde ravnina dikaya granichit? Kto, pugaya chutkogo konya, V tishine iz sinej dali klichet Chelovech`im golosom menya? I uzheli net puti inogo, Gde by' mog projti ya, ne gubya Ni nadezhd, ni schast`ya, ni by'logo, Ni konya, ni samogo sebya? Veet pole tishinoj velikoj! Mertvecy' v mogilax drevnix spyat. Ocharovan krasotoyu dikoj, Opuskayu ya pokorno vzglyad. I odin ya v pole, i otvazhno Zhizn` zovyot, a smert` v glaza glyadit… Cherny'j voron sumrachno i vazhno, Polusonny'j, na kreste sidit.
