Un jove granger, ric i ben plantat, un cop li prometé una millor sort; es burlava dels seus cabells rojos, el ric pretendent es féu enrere; d’altres en vingueren i marxaren, ella no tenia cap dot. Que Déu protegeixi la Joana del pèl roig! El caçador furtiu és en lloc segur. Un brivall es decidí de seguida: et prenc per esposa, rossa o de pèl roig; tinc dos fusells, sóc espavilat, el guardabosc no m’emprenya pas; jo pagaré també el capellà que amb una petita homilia ens unirà.
