You can help us modernize! The present website has been online for a very long time and we want to bring it up to date. As of May 6, we are $2,380 away from our goal of $15,000 to fund the project. The fully redesigned site will be better for mobile, easier to read and navigate, and ready for the next decade. Please give today to join dozens of other supporters in making this important overhaul possible!

Lied von Spervogel

Language: Mittelhochdeutsch

Er ist gewaltic unde starc,
der ze wînnaht geborn wart:
Daz ist der heilige Krist.
jâ lobt in allez, daz dir ist,
Niewan der tievel eine:
dur sînen grôzen übermuot
sô wart ime diu helle ze teile.
In der helle ist michel unrât:
swer dâ heimuote hât,
Diu sunne schînet nie so lieht,
der mâne hilfet in niet,
Noch der liehte sterne:
jâ müet in allez, daz er siht,
jâ wær er dâ ze himel alsô gerne.
In himelrîch ein hûs stât,
ein guldîn wec dar în gât,
Die siule die sint mermelîn;
die zieret unser trehtîn
Mit edelen gesteine:
dâ enkumt nieman în,
er ensî von allen sünden alsô reine.
Swer gerne zuo der kilchen gât
und âne nît dâ stât,
Der mac wol vrôlîchen leben:
dem wirt ze jungest gegeben
Der engel gemeine.
wol im, daz er ie wart:
ze himel ist daz leben alsô reine.
Ich hân gedienet lange
leider einem manne,
Der in der helle umbe gât:
der bûwet mîne missetât,
Sin lôn der ist bœse.
hilf mir, heiliger geist,
daz ich mich von sîner vancnisse lœse.

Im Himmelreich ein Haus steht

Language: German (Deutsch) after the Mittelhochdeutsch

Im Himmelreich ein Haus steht,
da hin ein goldener Weg geht.
Die Säulen die sind von Marmelstein,
da legte unser Herr hinein
die edelsten Gesteine.
In dieses Haus geht niemand ein,
der nicht von allen Sünden reine.
