Es war einmal ein Zimmergesell, War gar ein jung frisch Blut, Er baut dem jungen Markgraf ein Haus; Zweifle nicht, mein Schatz, mein Kind, Er baut dem jungen Markgraf ein Haus Sechshundert Laden hinaus. 2. Und als das Haus gebauet war, Legt er sich nieder und schlief, Da kam des jungen Markgrafen Weib, Zum zweiten und dritten und rief: 3. "Steh auf, steh auf, du Zimmergesell, Denn es ist an der Stund', Hast du so wohl gebauet das Haus, So küß mir meinen Mund!" 4. Ach nein, ach nein, Markgräfin fein Das wär uns beiden ein Schand und wenn's der Markgraf wohl erführ Müßt ich ja meiden das Land. 5. Und da sie Beide zusammen war'n Vermeinten, sie waren allein Da schlich eine falsche Magd daher Zum Schlüsselloch schaut sie ein. 6."Ach edler Herr, ach edler Herr, Groß Wunder dieser Stund Da küßt der junge Zimmergesell Der Gräfin ihren Mund." 7. "Und hat er geküßt meine schöne Frau Des Todes muß er sein, Ein´n Galgen soll er sich selber baun Zu Schafhausen draus am Rhein." 8. Und als der Galgen gebauet war Sechshundert Laden hinaus, Von lauter Silber und Edelstein, Steckt er darauf einen Strauß. 9. Und als die Markgräfin das vernahm, Gen Schaffhausen ritt sie schnell, Da stieg die Leiter eben hinan Der jung frisch Zimmergesell. 10. "Ihr Herrn und käm die Markgräfin Voor euer Bettchen zu stahn, Würdet ihr sie halsen und küssen, Oder würdet sie lassen gahn?" 11. Sie sprachen: Und käm die Markgräfin Vor unser bettchen gegahn, Wir wollten sie halsen und küssen Und wollten sie freundlich umfahn. 12. "Wolltet ihr sie halsen und küssen Und wolltet sie freundlich umfahn, So hat auch der jung frisch Zimmergesell So Arges nicht getan." 13. Da sprach der Markgraf selber wohl: "Wir wollen ihn leben lahn, Ist Keiner doch unter uns allen hier, Der dies nicht hätte getan." 14. Was zog er aus der Tasche heraus Wohl hundert Goldkronen rot Geh mir nur aus dem Land hinaus Findst überall dein Brot. 15. Und als er hinaus gezogen war, Da ging er üb'r die Heid', Da steht dei junge Markgräfin In ihrem schneeweissem Kleid. 16. Was zog aus ihrer Tasche schnell? Vielhundert Stücke Gold: "Nimm's hin, du schöner Junggesell, Nimm's hin zu deinem Sold." 17. "Und wenn dir Wein zu sauer ist, So trink du Malvasier, Und wenn mein Mündlein dir süßer ist, So komme wieder zu mir!"

1. Hi havia un oficial fuster, era un xicot jove i ben plantat, ell construïa una casa per al jove marquès; no ho dubtis pas, tresor meu, criatura meva, construïa una casa per al jove marquès amb sis-cents taulons. 2. I quan la casa s’acabà de construir, s’ajagué al llit i es posà a dormir, aleshores arribà la jove esposa del marquès i el cridà dues i tres vegades: 3. “Lleva’t, lleva’t, tu oficial fuster, car ja és hora, tu has construït molt bé la casa i, així, besa’m a la boca!” 4. Ai no, ai no, distingida marquesa, per ambdós seria una infàmia, i si se’n assabentés el marquès, hauria de deixar el país. 5. I mentre tots dos eren junts creient que estaven sols, una pèrfida criada s’esquitllà de puntetes i els observà pel forat del pany. 6. “Ai noble senyor, ai noble senyor, gran meravella fou l’instant en què el jove oficial fuster besà la boca de la marquesa.” 7. “Doncs si ha besat la meva bella esposa serà condemnat a mort, ell mateix es construirà el patíbul a Schaffhausen, prop del Rin.” 8. I quan el patíbul fou construït amb sis-cents taulons, hi posà damunt un pomell de pur argent i pedres precioses. 9. I quan se’n assabentà la marquesa cavalcà rabent vers Schaffhausen, i pujà tot just l’escala amunt vers el jove i ben plantat oficial fuster. 10. “Senyors, si la marquesa vingués davant del vostres llits, la voldríeu acaronar i besar o la deixaríeu anar?” 11. Ells digueren: si la marquesa vingués davant del nostres llits l’acaronaríem i la besaríem i l’abraçaríem afablement. 12. “L’acaronaríeu i la besaríeu i l’abraçaríeu afablement, així el jove oficial fuster no ha fet res de dolent.” 13. Aleshores, el mateix marquès digué: “Li perdonarem la vida si cap dels aquí presents no hagués fet la mateixa cosa.” 14. Es tragué de la butxaca cent corones d’or i digué: vés-te’n fora del país i guanya’t el pa arreu. 15. I quan ell hagué marxat, caminant per la prada es trobà amb la jove marquesa en el seu vestit blanc com la neu. 16. Què es tragué ella prest de la butxaca? Molts centenars de peces d’or: “Pren-les, tu formós oficial fuster, pren-les com la teva retribució.” 17. “I si trobes el vi massa agre beu malvasia, i si t’és més dolça la meva boca, torna al meu envers!”
