Hoe dapper mijn jongen wel is!
Voor de koning, ja, gaf hij zijn bloed,
Voor mij echter ook net zo goed.
 
Mijn schat heeft geen streep en geen ster,
Geen kruis op zijn borst of revers,
Mijn schat wordt ook geen generaal;
Was hij weg uit de dienst maar eenmaal!
 
Er stralen drie sterren zo hel
Daar boven Maria's kapel;
Daar bindt ons een roosrode band,
En ons kruisje hangt daar aan de wand.
