Direz, chantant mes vers, en vous esmerveillant,
Ronsard me celebroit du temps que j'estois belle.

Lors vous n'aurez servante oyant telle nouvelle,
Desja sous le labeur à demy sommeillant,
Qui au bruit de Ronsard ne s'aille resveillant,
Benissant vostre nom de louange immortelle.

Je seray sous la terre, et fantaume sans os :
Par les ombres Myrtheux je prendray mon repos.
Vous serez au fouyer une vieille accroupie,

Regrettant mon amour, et vostre fier desdain.
Vivez, si m'en croyez, n'attendez à demain :

Bist du einst wirklich alt und sitzt bei Kerzenlicht
des Abends am Kamin, am spulen und am spinnen,
dann wirst du, meine Verse singend, staunend dich erinnern:
"Ronsard pries vormals mich, als ich noch schön von Angesicht."

Nur eine Magd wird bei dir sein und hört dein Fabulieren,
wiewohl schon über ihrer Arbeit beinah eingenickt,
schlägt sie beim Laut "Ronsard" die Augen auf, beglückt
dir zur Unsterblichkeit zu gratulieren.

Ich werd' dann ein Phantom ohn' Fleisch und Knochen sein;
im Schatten einer Myrte find' ich mich zur Ruhe ein.
Und du ein altes Weib am Herd mit rundem Rücken,

das meiner Liebe spottend sich verborgen.
Drum lebe, glaub' mir, warte nicht auf morgen,
