Often on beautiful springtime days
A curious soughing passes through the woods,
Like a deeply yearning questioning
That echoes through the soft breezes;
Then a whispering, a lovely jesting,
Quite like an inclination of heart to heart --
But those who wish to understand this soughing

  There is a rushing of the brooklet deep in the gullies;
A splashing here, a prattling there:
In the fresh air a proclamation of spring,
A whispering word in the dream of love;
It is as if the stones themselves must
Sough along resoundingly --

The quiet forest path in springtime sentiment,
Then like gold, the heavens glow richly and wondrously
