vad trycker du till ditt bröst? 
Likna de dig, 
såsom dessa hav likna 
oceanen gråtande i raseri?

Ocean, ocean, 
du vräker dig från strand till strand 
i ostillad längtan, 
du klappar om natten 
på jordens järnhällar, att de eka.

Ocean, ocean, 
när din vrede lagt sig, 
klarnar du åter upp. 
Nyårssolen stiger blek, men segerviss ur dina gömmor. 
Vågornas stelnade tunga sjunger om rosornas kraft året om.

Te ressemblent-ils
comme ces mers ressemblent
à l'océan pleurant de rage ?

Océan, océan,
tu te jettes de plage en plage
dans un désir inassouvi,
tu palpites dans la nuit
sur les rochers de fer de la terre pour qu'ils résonnent.

Océan, océan,
quand ta colère s'apaise
tu te dérides à nouveau.
Le soleil du nouvel an se lève de tes tréfonds, blême mais triomphant.
La langue raide des flots chante la force des roses toute l'année.
