Die Blutbuche
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): CAT ENG
Eine junge Blutbuche stand
Ob meiner ersten Liebe,
Und als ich mein erstes Lied erfand,
Sah sie zu, was ich schriebe.
So wie die Blutbuche kann kein Baum
In Frühlingsprächten schwelgen,
Hat keiner so farbigen Sommertraum
Und so ein jähes Welken.
Eine junge Blutbuche steht
In allen meinen Träumen,
Ein vergangener Mai umweht
Meinen Liebling unter den Bäumen.

The copper beech
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
A young copper beech stood
Over my first love,
And as I created my first poem,
It watched what I was writing.
No tree can revel like the copper beech
In the splendours of spring,
None has such a colourful summer dream
And such a precipitous wilting.
A young copper beech stands
In all my dreams,
A bygone May wafts about
My favourite among the trees.
