Στο ρημαγμένο παρεκκλήσι
της Άνοιξης το θείο κοντύλι
εικόνες έχει ζωγραφίσει
με τ' αγριολούλουδα τ'Απρίλη.

Ό ήλιος, γέρνοντας στη δύση,
μπροστά στου ιερού την πύλη
μπαίνει δειλά να προσκυνήση
κι ανάφτει υπέρλαμπρο καντήλι.

Σκορπάει γλυκειά μοσκοβολιά
δάφνη στον τοίχο ριζωμένη -
θυμίαμα που καίει η Πίστις -

και μια χελιδονοφωλιά,
ψηλά στο νάρθηκα χτισμένη,
ψάλλει το Δόξα εν Υψίστοις...

Vesper

In the ravaged chapel
Spring's divine slate pencil 
has painted images 
with April's wildflowers. 

The sun, setting
in front of the temple gate, 
enters shyly to worship 
and lights a radiant candle.

A laurel rooted on the wall
scatters a sweet aroma -
incense offered by Faith -

and a swallow's nest, 
built up in the narthex, 
chants Gloria in Excelsis...
