Nachruf des Jünglings
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Mädchen, frage nicht die Lüfte,
Nicht die kühlen Abenddüfte!
   Hesper, Luna, Nachtigall
Fühlen nicht dein leises Sehnen,
Können deuten deine Thränen
   Im geheimen Mondenstrahl.

Ich nur kann's! ich kann's, du Süße!
Mädchen, eil' in meine Küsse!
   Sauge Lieb' um Liebe ein!
Wer da einsam will genießen,

Erster Theil."

What the young lad called after her
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Maiden, do not ask the breezes,
Not the cool scents of evening!
   Evening star, moon, nightingale
Do not feel your quiet yearning,
Cannot interpret the tears [you weep]
   In the secret moonbeam.

Only I can do so, I can, you sweet one!
Maiden, hasten to my kisses!
   Inhale love upon love!
Whoever wants to enjoy in solitude,
Shall repent with bitter tears.
Let me be yours for eternity!
