Die Nixe

Aus der Tiefe tauchte sie nach oben,
Tauchte auf aus einem dunklen Traum,
Halben Leibes aus der Flut erhoben,
Äugt die Nixe auf zum Himmelsraum.

Welch ein [Leuchten]¹! Ihre kühlen Arme
Bietet sie dem Kuß der Sonne dar,
Ihre Brust, daß einmal sie erwarme,
Und ihr feuchtes und verwirrtes Haar.

Ach, nicht Wärme zuckt durch ihre Glieder,
Nur ein Sehnen, das sie elend macht,
Und sie seufzt, und weinend taucht sie wieder
In die kalte, wunderliche Nacht.

L'ondine

Elle a émergé des profondeurs,
Elle a émergé d'un sombre rêve,
La moitié de son corps au-dessus de l'onde,
L'ondine lève les yeux vers les espaces éthérés.

Quel éclat ! Au baiser du soleil,
Elle offre ses bras froids,
Sa poitrine qu'un jour il réchauffa,
Et sa chevelure mouillé et emmêlée.

Hélas, la chaleur ne coule pas dans ses membres,
Seulement un désir qui la rend misérable,
Alors elle soupire et replonge en pleurant
Dans la nuit froide et fantasque.
