Haveva li crin di fiori, e fronde cinto
et il suo volto tinto
di pallor e così rivolto al sole
Dicca queste parole

Conosca il mondo vil perfido ingrato
Il nome si pregiato
De la mia Ninfa, e più non potrà dire
Che si sentia morire.

stand ein hübscher Hirt,
der so bitter und elend klagte,
dass die Steine mit ihm weinten.

Sein Haupt war umwunden mit Blüten und Blättern,
und sein Antlitz bleich
und blass, und zur Sonne gewandt
sprach er dies Worte:

Möge die gemeine, böse, undankbare Welt
den so werten Namen
meiner Geliebten erfahren; mehr konnte er nicht sagen,
denn er fühlte den Tod nahen.
