Monatsrose
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Aus des Nachbars Haus
Trat mein Lieb hinaus,
Hielt ein Röslein in der Hand.
Und ich stand am Zaun,
Konnt' nicht satt mich schau'n,
Nicht ein Wort zum Gruß ich fand!
Und sie sprach zu mir:
"Sieh' dies Röslein hier,
Sieh', das soll dein eigen sein."
In der Rosenzeit
Ward das Herz so weit,
Ward das schönste Röslein mein!

Damask rose
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
From my neighbour's house
My beloved stepped,
Holding a little rose in her hand.
And I stood at the fence,
Could not look my fill,
I found not a word of greeting!
And she spoke to me:
"See this little rose here,
See, it shall be your own."
In the time of roses
My heart became so expansive,
The most beautiful little rose became mine!
