Soll ich weilen an dem Strande? Soll ich eilen übern See?

Shall I linger at the shore? Shall I hasten across the lake? Or boldy ascend from the rocky rim Up to the eternal snow? Here the shade entices so beautifully, There the waters sparkle so brilliantly, And above the meadows shimmeringly Beckons the pure glow of the old snow. Hark! I hear a little bell ringing, The sounds waft hither and thither: The heart must strive ever higher, Must fly upward until it reaches God’s heart!
