by Maria von Fielitz, née Leonardi (d. 1925)
Translation Singable translation by John Bernhoff (flourished 1890-1912)

Der Mondschein glitzert durch's Blättergewirr

The moonbeams silver the landscape o'er
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The moonbeams silver the landscape o'er,
the fragrant woods dream in the splendor.
I rest my head upon his breast
and dream of love true and tender.

I sit me down on mossy bed,
long silent we sit; and fondly
he looks at me with longing eyes.
Then I kiss'd him, I kiss'd him fondly.

I feel his breath on my fever'd cheek,
my lips drink his burning kisses.
He whispers sweet words of eternal love,
then I sank down beneath his caresses.

From the Fielitz score.
