Heut' sang ein Vöglein mir in's Ohr
Language: German (Deutsch)
Doch bitte keinen Alten!

A birdling sang to me today
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
A birdling sang to me today, With song so dear did tarry; He soon will hold his wedding feast, and said I too should marry. That would be just unto my mind, Thee I may tell, nor fear me; But never, even to this day, Has sweetheart fond come near me! Without a bridegroom can, I fear, No wedding feast be holden. Mayhap thou'lt bring one, birdling dear? But bring not, please, an old one!
