Zde hledím na ten drahý list
Language: Czech (Čeština)
Our translations:  ENG
Zde hledím na ten drahý list
Ve knižce uložený,
A Tvého srdce chci zas čísť
Ty sladké pol-ozvěny.

Tu milým slovem povídáš,
Že věčně budeš mojí,
A [až]1 mě zase uhlídáš,
Že nic nás nerozdvojí!

A my se opět viděli,
Já poznal světa změny;
Mně nezbyl leč list zpuchřelý
Ve knížce uložený.

Here I peruse your dear letter
Language: English  after the Czech (Čeština)
Here I peruse your dear letter,
within a book where it’s kept;
I want to read and remember
soft faint echoes of your heart.

In your kindly words you tell me
you will be mine for ever,
and that again you will see me,
nought shall drive us asunder;

but when once again we did meet
I found that all was different;
just a withered letter was left
within a book where it’s kept.
